Personal Healing Ignites Community Healing Project
Cultures around the world have used sound and music during healing rituals for centuries.
Today it is estimated that at least 40% of all people have tried integrative medicine—blending conventional medical treatment with alternative therapies that incorporate sound and vibration.
Angel Harps, a non-profit organization based in Chula Vista, California has a goal of making healing music accessible to at risk children and to get the healing music of harps into the classrooms.
The organization has some amazing stories to share.
Founder, Dianna Woodley was confined to a wheelchair when a segment on a popular television show (Wildest Dreams on Oprah) triggered the idea that is now a reality.
At the time Woodley suffered from plantar fasciitis, a debilitating inflammation of the plantar fascia which is the thin layer that supports the arch of the foot.
The pain grew so intense that Woodley lost the ability to walk and became confined to a wheelchair in 2001.
Despite her disability, Woodley began to play the harp and took her message out into the community.
During her own healing process, she sold her belongings for funds to support the new non-profit, and wheeled herself throughout the area collecting donations from neighbors, local businesses, and anyone that would listen.
The response was overwhelming and about 200 households responded with money.
Those harp strings from Angel Harps really do tug on the heart strings—and not only helped Woodley to heal but is also helping others benefit as well.
Angel Harps goal is to help kids
Rosemarie Hernandez, a Down’s Syndrome victim, was studying at Castle Park Middle School when she was awarded the first harp on May 5, 2005.
Mrs. Hernandez, Rosemarie’s mother, says that the young woman plays it every day and that the therapy has helped her and brings joy into the home.
We believe the story of how the Angel Harps mission to help children attracts sponsorship on the local, regional and national levels would be of interest to viewers in a variety of media outlets.
